Where were you born?

I was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, shortly before my family moved to Melbourne.

What other jobs have you had?

My main job over the last few years was as a UI/Web Designer for Saas companies (Software-as-a-service), where I was also able to use my illustrations to personalise their brands. Prior to that, I worked in customer service at a local bakery and I also spent a year after university working at Walt Disney World in Florida.

What themes are recurring in your work?

Many of my favourite characters are young girls and women discovering their strengths. In ‘Our Little Inventor’, Nell is an example of what it means to have resilience in the face of adversity, being kind and looking after those around you. There have also been so many amazing stories from Asian creators and I enjoy them immensely. I also hope to contribute my own stories and art as an Asian-Australian.

What have been the highlights of your career?

Spending time with other artists and creatives is the first thing that comes to mind. Being able to work with Alice Pung on ‘Be Careful, Xiao Xin!’ has been such an incredible experience. She is one of my all time favourite authors, and our creative process has been so pleasant and seamless, what an absolute privilege to be illustrating her stories.

What are you passionate about?

From a young age I have always enjoyed watching animated films and shows. I appreciated them as an artform, I loved the storytelling and how they were only ever limited by the imaginations of the production crew. I may not be an animator myself, but I always strive to accomplish that same magic and skill into my work.

Haven’t I seen you before?

Haha, I’d be surprised if you have, but maybe you’ll recognise my work more than my face.
