Lee Fox

Lee Fox writes hilarious stories in rollicking rhyme about the things children do not like doing. She cleverly disguises literacy concepts in her stories so that young readers don’t even know they are learning.

What other jobs have you had?

Apart from raising five children, I’ve been a production assistant for a commercial radio station, a cook in a childcare centre, and a store manager on a remote Aboriginal community. I worked part-time in a book shop for seven years and have studied part-time as a mature aged student. Currently I am employed as an advertising manager while I complete my latest writing project - a work of non-fiction.

What themes are recurring in your work?

Most of my characters are children who don’t like doing what’s good for their health and wellbeing. But I’ve also written on other topics, like hermit crabs that get in and out of trouble. My overall theme is win/win situations.

What have been the highlights of your career?

Living my dream of having my work published. Being shortlisted and longlisted for CBCA awards and a Speech Pathology Book of the Year award. Getting to meet and work with the children who love my stories.

Where have your works been published?

Visible Ink (an RMIT Professional Writing and Editing student anthology) I’ve also had stories published in The Age newspaper.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about literacy and motivating children, in a fun and engaging way, to want to read and write.
