Caz Goodwin is an award-winning, internationally published children’s author, passionate about inspiring young readers through storytelling. Her books have won or been shortlisted for awards, including the 2024 CBCA Book of the Year, the 2024 and 2022 Speech Pathology Book of the Year, and Singapore’s National Arts Council Beyond Words Award. As the head of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) in Victoria and an Australia Reads ambassador, she is dedicated to championing children’s literature and has spoken at numerous local and international festivals, conferences, community events, libraries and schools. Her books have been produced in Braille for low-vision readers, featured in the Premier’s Reading Challenge, and showcased on Sarah Ferguson’s Fergie and Friends show, CBCA Storytime, podcasts, newspapers, and radio.

Meet the Speaker

Where were you born?

I was born in Melbourne, but have also lived in Brisbane, Auckland, Singapore and Malaysia.

What other jobs jobs have you had?

I studied psychology at university and worked as a human resources manager for many years. I’ve also been a speech writer, a soldier in the army reserve and played drums in a band.

What themes are recurring in your work?

Acceptance and diversity are common themes in my work. But I find that no matter what I’m writing, gentle humour always finds its way in.

What is your writing style?

Irreverent and amusing, but also tender and heartfelt.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about early childhood literacy and encouraging children’s love of books and reading. I’m also passionate about ice-cream.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with us?

I have a koala puppet called Dora who has a habit of taking over my presentations. All the kids love her, and the younger ones often ask if she is real. A giant koala called Lazy Daisy and big Little Matilda kitten often come along as well.
