Writing Workshops
by Jacqueline Harvey, Tim Harris, Sue Whiting
Description
| We must never forget that writing is a craft and the only way to develop that craft is to practise it – to write and write and write. In her writing workshops, Sue Whiting draws on her teaching, writing and editing experiences to inspire young writers to use their imaginations and to unleash their creative monsters within. Workshops focus on the importance of the writing journal and regular free writing, and aim to encourage students to discover the joy in writing and to help them become confident and enthusiastic writers – writers ready and willing to dive in and take risks. Specific content is tailored to the needs of the group, but all workshops include tips and exercises for writing development. Topics covered:* Unleashing innate creativity * Getting ideas – and what to do with them * The story triangle: character, problem, setting * Plotting, planning and making trouble * Creating intriguing characters * Writing techniques, such as: using senses and delicious details to bring settings to life, show not tell, using imagery etc. |
