What is this YA the kids are reading?

by Ellie Marney

Description

Although new statistics on reading show that YA books are crossing the age-divide, many parents and adults are still a bit mystified by Young Adult as a category.

Ellie has the unique perspective of being on all sides of the equation – reader, parent, teacher, author – and this talk provides an opportunity to examine the YA backstory, the books themselves, and gain some insight into your child’s reading life.

  • YA – what is it?
  • Unpacking the category
  • When are kids ready for YA?
  • Borderlands
  • Why don’t I know the books?
