Learn how to paint in Sami’s very own medium of choice, watercolour. This session will be jam-packed with tips and tricks for when it comes to painting with such a challenging resource like watercolours. You will leave with a finished (or close to) artwork and a brand new understanding of scientific illustration.
Topics covered:
- Learn about Sami’s journey, who she is and what she does.
- Hear about her books (with a few animal stories mixed in).
- Be briefed in some watercolour terminology/time-lapse process videos.
- Drawing activity – sketch the animal or plant that you will be doing (led by Sami).
- Then it’s time to add the paint! This will be entirely led by Sami.

Requirements
Laptop/PC to connect to whiteboard for PowerPoint presentation. A microphone where there will be more than 50 students in a space. Author will arrange for book pre-orders. Author will bring USB stick, personal laptop. File in PC format. Students will need 1 piece of A4 or A3 watercolour paper, a pencil, something to lean on (e.g. table), watercolour paints, a palette, a cup for clean water, a rag (or sheet of paper towel), and some paint brushes. There should be some erasers and sharpeners on hand to share around as well. These painting supplies must be purchased/arranged by the school. It’s important to note that they can be expensive/challenging to arrange in short notice. Sami will be more than willing to suggest specific items.
