Caring for Homes, Belongings and Pets with Clutterbugs and Our Family Zoo
by Maura Pierlot
Description
An interactive presentation or workshop, inspiring young learners on topics including sustainable practices, personal responsibility, pet ownership, and home and family care.
With Clutterbugs, students will explore Steff's messy room and her journey into gift-giving through eco-friendly recycling. In Our Family Zoo, students will discover the meaning of ‘family’ through the joy of pets (including the wild ones!), and the impacts of changing and growing families.
Highlights include:
INTERACTIVE STORYTELLING: Students will delight in the characters’ adventures and emotional journeys with the help of wild and wonderful creature companions like clutterbugs, and a household of zoo animals.
DYNAMIC GROUP DISCUSSIONS: Following the reading of Clutterbugs, students will think critically about our impact on the planet and share ideas for how they can make needed changes, inspiring teamwork and a sense of community.
After reading Our Family Zoo, students will identify language structures of the text and how this fun romp can be a relatable story about identity, belonging and change.
CREATIVE CRAFT ACTIVITIES: Students will brainstorm and /or create their own eco-friendly crafts, reinforcing the idea that small actions can lead to significant changes. These can relate to both books’ themes and ideas.
