Using Humour in Storytelling

Description
To and Fro is meant to be a funny book about growing up mixed race in Australia and identity and belonging.
Anton will read scenes from To and Fro and students will discuss why they think the scene is funny, or not.
Anton will talk about the main type/s of humour (Slapstick, Observational, Gross or Wit) used in each scene. Students will discuss which type/s of humour they prefer, and why.
Students give examples of things people said or did that made them laugh.
Students write a short paragraph about something serious using humour to make it funny and engaging.
Topics covered:
- Types of humour in To and Fro: Slapstick, Observational, Gross or Wit.
- Choosing and using a type of humour in your writing.
- Using humour to write about serious issues and topics.

Years 4 to 6 (2 classes max)
Duration
1 x 60 minutes Can be adapted to suit client needs.
Requirements
I will bring my files on USB stick and my laptop. I will need adaptors to connect to a projector or interactive whiteboard.
