The writing of poetry
by Lia Hills
Description
This session is all about opening students’ eyes to what is possible when writing poetry – its different forms and incarnations –and how to be better writers, and readers, of poetry. (This can be delivered as a workshop or a lecture)
Topics:
What is a poem? Different poetic forms and techniques, including the works of the Surrealists, and contemporary poets, along with more traditional forms of poetry. Getting started, working from an image or an idea or a word. Different structures and voices available to the poet, both in free and rhyming verse. Depending on time available: learning to really use editing to shape and improve a poem.
