The wonders of the deep

In this session, students will explore Through the Darkening Sea illustrated by Peter Cheong. They will learn how the ocean changes colour as water depth increases and how that affects the astonishing animals that live there. They will also discover more wonders of the ocean, including whalefall. This session highlights and supports understanding of this finely tuned environment in our changing world.

In workshops, students will choose a animal from the story and begin a guided writing exercise. This can be non-fiction or fiction. Alternatively, they will invent a fish, draw it, describe it and give it a name.
