The Influence of Physical Performance in Writing

by Helen Chebatte

Description

Exploring ideas through the use of physical creative expression is a great approach to writing. Students will use improvisation performance as a way of trialing various story inspirations while building on character and text along the way.

As a professional actor, I used my training to guide my writing. By physically acting out scenes, and playing the characters I was creating, personality traits were discovered and a strong sense of story line was achieved. Physical performance frees the mind of inhibitions, allowing ideas and imagination to flow without restraint.
