Telling Your Stories

by Leanne Yong

Description

What does it take to write a book and be published? Do you need to win awards for your writing? Read and analyse Proper Literature, and books that have won awards? Get As in English?

As someone who was terrible at English in school , I share how I found my way from there (with examples of just how terrible I was) to becoming a published author – including the process of publication itself.

My aim is to encourage students to bring what they’re passionate about and what they love to their own writing, even if it’s not ‘important’ literature, because all kinds of literature and experiences are worthy of being read and told, no matter what society says.

Topics Covered

* My own high school experiences with English (I was terrible)

* How does one go from that to published author?

* How a book goes from idea to a physical copy on shelves

* Applying your own interests to text analysis and writing what you love
