How does a picture book get made? Who does the pictures? Who writes the words? And how does it all come together?

In this workshop, students will learn all about the behind-the-scenes work that happens inside a publish house to create a picture book, from idea to finished creation, while at the same time building, writing and putting together their own mini picture book.

Students will emerge from this fun, fast, and hands-on workshop with their own 16 page picture book, as well as gaining an understanding of how some well-known picture books were made.

  • The parts of a story – how to find your beginning, middle and end
  • The different parts of a picture book – from cover to blurb
  • Who does what – how a picture book gets made
  • Writing and illustrating – two parts to telling a great picture book story!

Audience

Primary: Grade 3 to Grade 6

Duration

60-90 minutes (can be tailored to suit)

Requirements

Screen and data projector, with the capability of playing a Power Point presentation (will bring both a USB and laptop). No audio required. Participants with require pencils and paper. Other materials will be provided.
