Description

History, Australian Rules Football and ‘A Sense of Belonging’

This session describes the process used to research and write ‘Side by Side.’

This is a story about a family set in 1916, who follow the high and lows of the Collingwood Football Club. This experience gives them a sense of belonging in a socially and economically difficult time in Australia’s history. It’s a historically based non-fiction narrative, reflecting everyday life during the Great Depression in 1916 and in World War I.
