Relevant, Informative, and Empowering Year 10 Drug & Alcohol Education Session

by Sharon Torpey (DARTA)

Description

Capacity of up to 120 students – can do above this if required, please let us know in your enquiry.

This engaging session for Year 10 students takes a deep dive into the complexities of drug and alcohol use, helping students understand risks, make informed decisions, and gain valuable tools for staying safe.

The session is designed to be engaging and interactive; however, please note that as the number of students increases, the format shifts toward a more lecture-based style to accommodate larger groups. While this reduces some of the interactive elements, the session still includes thought-provoking discussions, myth-busting, and practical examples to keep students engaged and informed.

By the end of the session, students will be empowered with the knowledge and skills to make informed choices about drugs and alcohol. Sharon’s aim is to get students thinking, talking, and actively developing their own strategies to stay safe.

Duration: The session runs for 90 minutes.

Optional Feature – Add a Paramedic Perspective:

For an even deeper understanding, schools have the option to add a paramedic to the session. Paramedics bring real-world experience to the conversation, sharing firsthand insights from their callouts, where they often assist young people dealing with drug and alcohol concerns. They’re happy to answer student questions, demonstrate how to handle situations, and provide advice based on their on-the-ground expertise. Paramedics are incredibly engaging, and students often ask about their career as well, which they are always eager to discuss.
