by Elizabeth Honey

Description

Introduction to my picture books: Princess Beatrice and the Rotten Robber The Cherry Dress Not a Nibble! The Moon in the Man I’m still awake, still!

Picture books are an art form. The best picture books are a seamless relationship between story and illustration creating a satisfying whole. A picture book is also a unique intimate performance, a shared experience. For children the enjoyment of a good story leads to reading, and an understanding of the illustrations, to the appreciation of art. Picture books are a window into the country of origin.

Topics:

Discussion of favourite picture books and why they are special. Choosing your idea. Who is it for? Polishing and testing your story. The title. What style of illustration? What medium? The importance of design, layout and cover. The development of picture book from idea to published book using Not a Nibble! as an example.
