Making social justice comics

by Mirranda Burton

Description

This module works best over a number of weeks, giving students the chance to complete tasks between sessions. Beginning with a basic introduction to the mechanics of the art form with practical exercises, students will go on to explore social issues in the medium. Tasks include analysing interview transcripts, interpreting the experiences of interviewees, researching supporting facts, and finding a unique way of engaging readers on issues that matter. Students will create a number of short works in preparation for a major piece exploring a social issue of their choice.
