Making Comics

A one-hour practical session of making comics, starting with warm-up drawings and progressing to creating a comics page featuring two characters that each student has created.
Topics covered:
- Comics as ‘writing with pictures’
- Emphasis that everyone, not just ‘good drawers’, has a style and a distinctive voice when they make a comic
- The process of making comics: character design, story events, page composition
- Process as discovery, ie drawing as research, as writing.

Requirements
Whiteboard and markers. Each student also needs a piece of blank A3 paper and a HB pencil – if they are not sitting at desks then they will need a hardback book or a clipboard to lean on.
