Illustrating Icebergs
by Jess Racklyeft
Description
“Iceberg” was a challenging project with the lead character of the book being an iceberg! Normally my books would have an animal or human character to focus on but this was an entirely new process for me. We decided to call the iceberg Norman!
In this session I will explain the process of illustrating this award winning book - explaining how the illustrations were made, how the seasons were communicated, how Norman moved through the book and how a book cover was decided on. We will also discuss all the research involved in creating a non fiction picture book set in such an incredible location.
Topics Covered:
*monprinting to create texture
*how to create a lead character - in this case an iceberg!
*researching Antarctica
*the process of creating books - working with publishers, editors and authors
*how a cover is chosen and created
*creating our own cover concept as an activity
