Illustrate quirky characters
by Freda Chiu
Description
A fun hands on workshop in which children use mixed media techniques to make quirky characters for storytelling. Freda will show “behind the scenes” of illustrating her own books and talk about what makes a compelling character. The children will then use their imaginations to transform spontaneously drawn shapes into unique characters with a mixed-media collage technique. This activity is for all skill levels and will show the children that anyone can be creative, and that there is absolutely no “correct” way of drawing.
Topics Covered:
- What makes a memorable character
- Expressing emotion through shape and texture
- Good ideas- Finding inspiration from observation and thinking about people you know
- Exploring mixed media collage techniques
