Fact or fiction?
by Lia Hills
Description
This session is all about opening students’ eyes to the techniques writers use when creating fiction, and how real life experiences can be incorporated into a fictional piece of work.
Topics:
What is meant by fiction, and what are some of the ways in which writers draw from personal experience and observation – the ordering of ‘facts’, and giving meaning to experience. The differences and similarities between various genres such as fiction and creative non-fiction, including examples drawn from my own work to highlight this process. Ways in which students can incorporate their experiences into their writing but avoid the dangers inherent in the writing of autobiographical fiction.
