Extended Workshop: Writing in the First Person

by Ailsa Piper

Description

This workshop focuses on writing in the first person. It was the biggest challenge Ailsa faced in writing Sinning Across Spain, but was just as pressing when she wrote the characters in her award-winning play Small Mercies. How to locate that authentic voice, and not censor it? How to find the “I” of a character, even when the character is…I?

Whether as writer, director, workshop-leader or actor, Ailsa has spent a lifetime dealing with the twin challenges of authenticity and self-criticism, and she has many practical techniques at her fingertips to help others find a pain-free way through the woods of locating character and writing freely from it.

Come and explore.
