Emergency Emergency - Vehicles to the Rescue - Safety, Emergencies and You!
by Rhiân Williams
Description
More than 9 million calls are made to Triple-0 (000) each year in Australia, and each of these calls could literally save someone’s life.
According to Kids Alive, a recent survey found that only 14% of people were very confident that the children they know aged three to six would understand that they can get help in an emergency by calling Triple-0 (000).
And with almost 2 million Australian children in this age group, there is critical need for young children to learn about the triple zero emergency number and when to call it.
This session introduces different types of emergencies, including fires, floods, snake bite, mountain rescues, getting lost and the types of emergency vehicles and personnel that respond to the emergency, along with important safety messages and how, and when, to call Triple-0 for emergency assistance.

Requirements
It is possible to discuss with the presenter arranging for a fire truck and/or other emergency vehicles and personnel to be part of this session. This needs to be negotiated in advance and a safe and accessible space for the vehicle/s to be parked will need to be arranged. This session is greatly enhanced if there is access to a space where students can identify things such as emergency exits, first aid kits, fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, emergency collection points, etc.
