Don't Quit Your Day Job

by Tobias Madden

Description

A "backstage, all-access pass" to author life.

After working as a music theatre performer for 10 years, I decided to pivot to writing and publishing. Six years later, I now have three published novels (plus a short story anthology) and I'm the Digital Marketing Manager at a publishing house in New York City.

In this session I'll explore my own publishing journey, helping students understand how to get their stories published, and how to create a sustainable life as an author (or other creative) - not only financially, but physically and mentally, too.
  • Why I got into writing
  • My books and my publishing journey
  • What is day-to-day life like as an author
  • How I support my writing career with other paid work
  • Different examples of how authors "make it work"
  • What it's like working in book publishing and the different pathways into the industry
  • Author/writing/publishing Q&A session
