Creating Believable Characters in YA Fiction

by Mark Smith

Description

The Road To Winter revolves around three central characters – Finn, Rose & Kas. Finn is 16, shy but resourceful and strong. Rose (19) and Kas (16) are escaped asylum seekers ('Sileys'). They are sisters who respond to Finn in different ways.

What does a reader look for in a character? How do you build those characters to make them believable? How do you interest boys in female characters and girls in male characters? (apart from the obvious!)
