Brush and Ink Painting Workshop

by Sally Rippin

Description

This is a workshop in brush and ink painting based on my Chinese Painting studies. I begin by introducing the Four Treasures of Chinese painting; brush, rice-paper, ink stone and ink stick and show how this technique has influenced my illustration work today. Then I do a simple landscape painting demonstrating several different brushstrokes as well as explaining a little about the philosophy of Chinese Painting. Next it is up to the students to try! Once they have mastered a landscape painting I will show them how to paint bamboo, which they soon find out is deceptively simple. This is a great workshop to tie in with Asian Studies or simply as an opportunity to try something completely new.
