Alphabetical Somewhere
by Antonia Pesenti
Description
Inspired by the best-selling Alphabetical Sydney, students will explore the idea of place by investigating the community they live in.
Starting with a lively alphabetical brainstorming session, we’ll explore the suburb or town the students live in – looking at the iconic and unforgettable, but also the mundane and overlooked.
Letters of the alphabet are distributed via a lucky dip, and the students work together to create 26 spreads combining short imaginative verses and colourful illustrations inspired by their personal connections to place.
The session ends with a live reading by the students and finally in the collating of the pages to form a unique alphabetical book.
Topics Covered
- The meaning of place – and how it is formed by the ordinary AND the extraordinary.
- Making books and exploring ideas
- Collaborating between writers and illustrators
