Join Sami as she shares her interesting journey into becoming a scientific illustrator. What began as a painting of a bin chicken, eventually lead to her being where she is today.


This session will be sure to inspire everyone to follow their dreams and to never be too scared to try.

  • Learn about Sami’s journey as she shares some snapshots of old artworks and how she discovered her dream degree.
  • Hear about how she gained a book deal and how you can increase your odds as well.
  • Learn about Australia’s own previous scientific illustrators, the Scott Sisters and Ferdinand Bauer.
  • Drawing activity - I will lead the audience in creating a simple, yet detailed illustration of an animal from one of my books.
  • Get some tips if you too would like to become and author or illustrator one day.

Upper High School, Teachers, Adults

Requirements

Laptop/PC to connect to whiteboard for PowerPoint presentation. A microphone where there will be more than 50 students in a space. Author will bring additional copies of the book. Author will bring USB stick, personal laptop. File in PC format. Students will need 1 piece of A4 plain paper, a pencil, and something to lean on (e.g. workbook). There should be some erasers and sharpeners on hand to share around. Author will arrange for book pre-orders
