Way Back When Consulting Historians is a team of four professional historians: Sarah Rood, Katherine Sheedy, Lucy Bracey and Fiona Poulton. They work with a range of clients – from schools to local councils and community organisations – on many different projects, including books, exhibitions, oral history projects and digital histories. Way Back When is passionate about uncovering and telling stories, and helping communities make connections to the past that inform and give meaning to the present.

What themes are recurring in your work?

Major events and periods in Victorian and Australian history, such as World War I and World War II, migration, colonisation, education, medicine, urban and regional development. Community is at the heart of everything we do.

Where have your works been published?

Our books are self-published by our clients. They are available at State Library Victoria, as well as many local libraries.

What are you passionate about?

History and community. We are driven in our work to connect people and communities with the past.
