Michael Gerard Bauer is an in-demand speaker and a popular writer for children and young adults. His books have been shortlisted, won numerous awards and are used as class texts in many schools around Australia. He has written drama, comedy and adventure.
Mainly I was a teacher of English and Economics but at various times I was also a car park attendant, a pamphlet deliverer and a very nervous target operator at a rifle range.
I think maybe a common theme in my novels might be that people have the right to be who they are and that our uniqueness and individual differences should be celebrated.
My first novel The Running Man winning the Children’s Book Council Book of the Year as well as an award in Germany. Having all my novels published overseas. Getting invited to the White Ravens International Children’s Literature Festival in Munich in 2010.
My family and friends. People being treated fairly and with dignity. Protecting the natural environment. Words and stories. Music. Sport. The Brisbane Broncos. Queensland winning State of Origin.
Yes! I was that guy you almost ran off the road that day. Just wait till I get my hands on you!! (Or maybe you’re confusing me with Robin Williams…or perhaps Johnny Depp?)
Share? Well you’re not getting any of my chocolate, if that’s what you’re thinking!
We had a really wonderful visit with Michael. We could not have been happier with the way the project evolved, and the way in which Michael delivered his presentations to students. His visit was very much appreciated, and well received by all involved in the project. Students involved in the more intimate Writers’ Retreat had the opportunity to work with Michael on a more 1-1 basis. This was an amazing opportunity for these students.
Michael was organised and professional. The students were interested and keen to engage with questions for Michael. He was also able to modify his presentation on the spot due to time restraints. It was a pleasure to work with him.
The year 7 students found Michael’s talk informative and entertaining. Both Booked Out and Michael were very easy to deal with; the visit went very smoothly and Michael was very accommodating and gave great talks.
The students were wrapped with attention and sat and laughed the whole time (which for the last 2 periods of the day can be difficult!).
Students asked appropriate questions and Michael timed his performance with aplomb. The books were all borrowed out within the hour! It was a pleasure to have Michael stop by and effortlessly explain the process and the honest way in which books are written in his perspective. The manner in which he delivered the content was refreshing and entertaining!
The Year 8 audience were very receptive to Michael’s comedic and informative style. They were awestruck to meet the author of their class novel, having studied his book for several weeks.
