Manal Younus is a writer, poet, performer, and creative producer. As a young, black Muslim woman of Eritrean origins living in Australia, Manal uses her art forms to create and explore her own identity and spark thought in the minds of the audiences and communities she engages with.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
I have been a writer and research assistant for Our World Today, assistant director of a national NGO, and a producer and actor at Act Now Theatre
Time, Pressure, Identity, Growth, Self-respect, Love, Family, Social Politics
Performing in Malaysia at the Georgetown Literary Festival, publishing and launching ‘Reap’ – my first collection of poems.
I am most passionate about empowerment and equity.
Maybe! I’ve been a guest on ABC’s Q&A, presented a Ted Talk and I was a finalist for Young South Australian of the Year.
Manal was very engaging, relevant and connected to the audience. She encouraged interaction and creativity, and “talked to” rather than “talked at” the students.
