Anthony Lucas

Entertainer, Illustrator

An acclaimed director and animator, Anthony Lucas has made films that have been celebrated around the world. His 2005 short film The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello won a host of awards and was nominated for an Oscar.

Well known for his range of stories from gothic horror to adventures with giant rabbits, Anthony brings his wealth of filmmaking and animation skills to a workshop encounter of stop motion animation on the iPad.

Where were you born?

Brisbane, Queensland.

What themes are recurring in your work?

I like loner characters trying to fit into the world, but those worlds often include gothic horror or exotic monsters. Or rabbits.

What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about animation, graphic design, illustration, and stories for kids – especially picture books.

What have been the highlights of your career?

Nothing quite beats going to the 78th Academy Awards and sitting with the likes of Spielberg and Burton. It was also a highlight to see my work premiere at this year’s Melbourne Film Festival with my chapter of Tim Winton’s The Turning. Another was when I worked for one of my heroes Spike Jonze as a 3rd Unit Director on his feature film, Where The Wild Things Are in 2006

Haven’t I seen you before?

Probably, but I have a better haircut these days.
