Kirsty Eagar: Summer Skin – Sex, Social Media, Romance

Session Info:

Summer Skin is a modern day romance set in the hook-up culture of campus life. Ultimately optimistic, the novel examines some of the pressures unique to this generation of young adults.

It looks at what’s happening to intimacy and gender roles with so much skewed sexual content available online, and with social media making lives a performance. It challenges rigid definitions of masculinity and female sexuality.

The author discusses the inspirations for the novel, talks about how it was she came to write a “romance in reverse”, and explains why if you want people to talk, first you need to make them laugh.
