- There’s currently a great deal of pressure on kids and it starts from when they’re very young.
- Academic pressure, extra-curricular pressure and social/emotional pressure.
- Everyone wants young students to achieve their potential, but the layers of stress can thwart and immobilize rather than raise and encourage.
- My middle-grade series ‘Penelope Perfect’ deals with a main character who strives for excellence. A character who works herself into a lather over the smallest of things. Yet, like the real life girls she emulates, Penelope is wonderful, talented and feisty.
- Through readings, role plays and FUN, students will be encouraged to assess the pitfalls of Penelope’s attitudes and approaches, and give her advice on how to achieve without maximum stress.
- Then, they can take on their own advice without any force feeding or didacticism.
Topics Covered:
- Self acceptance
- Positives and negatives of perfectionism
- Ideas for managing anxiety
- How to help an anxious friend
- The different faces of success
This session was co-created by Chrissie Perry and Tony Wilson who offers the same session tailored for early primary.
