Rebecca Starford: Bad Behaviour: A Memoir of Bullying and Boarding School

Session Info:

Recent studies reveal that one in four students experience some form of bullying during their school life.

This session is an in-depth discussion of the themes central to my memoir, Bad Behaviour: A Memoir of Bullying and Boarding School.

As someone who was both a victim and a participant in bullying, I am passionate about educating my audience on the complexity of friendship circles.

My aim is to inspire students to talk more openly about their experiences on both side of the bullying fence, and to have robust conversations about what it is that makes girls and boys bully each other. Is it fear? Is it unhappiness? And most importantly, my aim is to work out strategies for students, parents and teachers to combat this harmful scourge in our schools.

  • What are the different types of bullying?
  • How does it make us feel to be bullied?
