Sue Lawson

Sue Lawson worked as a teacher and a radio announcer/producer before serious illness motivated her to devote more time to her true passion – writing.

What other jobs have you had?

I’ve been lucky enough to have had many different jobs. I’ve worked as a teacher, radio announcer and producer, swimming teacher, MCG attendant, shop assistant and babysitter. Now I divide my time between writing, running writing workshops and teaching.

What themes are recurring in your work?

My books have covered themes of friendship, grief, the trials of growing up, the damage of secrets.

What have been the highlights of your career?

Many of my books have been CBC notable books. “Allie McGregor’s True Colours” was awarded 2007 Australian Family Therapist’s Award for Children’s Literature and “Finding Darcy” was a Golden Inky, 2008 Inky Awards and shortlisted for the 2009 Peace Awards.

What are you passionate about?

Sue Lawson is passionate about writing, reading and encouraging young people to develop a love for both.

Anything else you’d like to share with us?

As well as reading and writing, I love the footy, working with kids and avoiding having to wash our dog.

Sue was friendly and she quickly developed a rapport with each group of students.
The teachers and the students enjoyed the visit and were inspired by Sue.
