Nat Amoore

Author, Online - Virtual Visits, Podcaster

Nat Amoore is a kid’s writer who is passionate about encouraging kids to read and write and explore their imagination without boundaries. She is all about big ideas, big laughs and big fun.

Where were you born?

On a farm on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. I joined a family of sheep, cows, a donkey, a crazy goat, some ferrets and a kangaroo called Skippy. They all loved me very much. There was also a big brother called Dane, who didn’t like me even a little bit!

What other jobs have you had?

I have been a trapeze artist, a travel agent, a podcast host, a filmmaker, a reality show contestant, worked at a Christmas tree farm and collected pinecones to sell.

What themes are recurring in your work?

I like writing about kids who make mistakes. I made lots of them when I was young and I turned out ok (my Mum might not agree). Mistakes are how you learn and grow. They don’t define you but they help make you. Imperfection is a wonderful thing.

What have been the highlights of your career?

I feel like I have a new highlight every day. The first time I held my book. The first time I was asked for an autograph. The first bit of fan mail I received. The first time I saw a kid dressed up as one of my characters for Book Week. It just keeps getting better.

Where have your works been published?

We have just sold the rights to ‘Secrets Of A Schoolyard Millionaire’ to Italy and Estonia. Who would have thought? Today Italy and Estonia, tomorrow…THE WORLD!

What are you passionate about?

I want my books to reflect the world I live in. My world is diverse, confusing, imperfect…so are my books and my characters. I don’t have all the answers and don’t pretend to. I want kids to know that’s ok. We are all just trying to do our best.

Haven’t I seen you before?

Possibly. Do you watch KidsWB? I had to rap about my book on TV and then got slimed. Talk about career highlights!

Anything else you’d like to share with us?

My sandwich. It’s really yum. If you would like a bite, just drop me a line, or send a carrier pigeon to collect.

Testimonials

Nat was absolutely fantastic! The kids LOVED her. We were limited to a digital experience and Nat managed to jump right through our screens. Cannot recommend her highly enough.

—N. Cotter, St Andrew's Cathedral School, August 2021

They LOVED it. The kids were excited and had great questions for Nat. Teachers said it was super engaging and entertaining. Nat’s energy was contagious and she taught the kids about storytelling in a really fun way.

—N. Schub, Moriah College, August 2021

Nat was so reliable and versatile, and a HUGELY engaging presenter. The kids adored her, and it’s been a pleasure to work with her.

—T. Hildebrand-Burke, State Library of Victoria, January 2021
I just wanted to pass on the message that Nat Amoore  came to visit us on Monday 19th and she was a hit with both the students and teachers. Her high energy and storytelling was amazing. She had everyone engaged for the whole time. The older students, in particular, were inspired by the way that she came up with her ideas and with her advice on how to become a writer.
I am so happy that this was such a positive experience for us.
—H. Yacou, Hannans Road Public School, October 2020

In more than fifteen years working with children’s authors, I’ve yet to meet someone who shows more instinctual understanding of children than Nat Amoore. A born entertainer and exceptional writer, I consider it a real privilege to have worked with her.

—Amelia Lush, Head of Children’s & YA Programs, Sydney Writer's Festival

Nat Amoore is hands down the greatest motivator for getting kids to read!

She can hold an audience of any age through her mischievous ways and her absolute passion for telling stories. I adore watching her sessions as not only are the kids rolling on the floor laughing, the adults are in on the fun too.

What I really love though is that she gets the kids to think about all sorts of topics, her sessions are a mini ethics lesson disguised by giggles and ending with a massive queue to grab a copy of Nat’s books. If you are looking for an author for your school/library, put Nat Amoore on the very top of your list.
