Glenda Millard writes picture books, novels for younger readers and for young adults. Her books have been published in Australia and internationally and have won many accolades.
I was born in Castlemaine in the goldfields region of Victoria and have lived in the same area all my life.
I left school just before I turned sixteen and worked in various office jobs until my children were teenagers.
The search for acceptance and love are common to many of my books along with family, the cycle of life, animals and conservation. Find out more about Glenda’s beautiful books at her newly updated website.
The children were enthralled, Glenda read “Duck and the Darklings” and was happy to talk about her other books as well. We loved it.
Glenda was phenomenal. The feedback from staff and students has been nothing but positive. As the literacy leader, I am rapt, as there is a real buzz around writing now. Glenda has certainly ignited the writing flame in our school. I can’t wait to see where this road takes us.
Thank you for all your work in arranging her visit.
Glenda Millard today was also great. She did a wonderful reading of her shortlisted book “The Duck and the Darklings” which we all enjoyed, as there is nothing quite like having an author read their own book as they know exactly how it was designed to be read aloud. She also talked about her collaboration with the illustrator to enhance the meaning of the book and also her use of language, which fitted in well to our school writing focus. She also involved students all the time by asking questions of the students, which engaged them further. She also did a great question and answer session at the end.
Glenda was well-received by our preps, 1’s & 2’s. It was lovely to have her read her own book to us (complete with powerpoint slides…so everyone could see the illustrations!). She was delightful to be around & wowed us with her “sparkle” words. The kids had lots of questions for her too, which was great.
