Where were you born?

I was born in Brisbane, though we moved around a lot when I was a kid. I’ve lived all along the east coast of Australia.

What other jobs have you had?

I’ve been a film critic, a DJ, and a projectionist. In addition to being an author, I’ve also worked in the marketing and sales departments of an international publishing company for over 15 years.

What themes are recurring in your work?

I deal a lot with coming-of-age issues, of feeling like an outsider, and about finding your place in the world.

What have been the highlights of your career?

I’ll never forget the feeling of being offered my first book contract, something I had been working towards since I wrote and drew my first picture book when I was 7 years old.

Where have your works been published?

The VANGUARD PRIME books were published by Penguin and the PALADERO series was with Hardie Grant.

What are you passionate about?

Inspiring a love of reading, writing and imagination.

Haven’t I seen you before?

I’ve made numerous festival appearances and given many school talks, but I’ve also shown off my supersonic scream power on Kids’ WB.

Anything else you’d like to share with us?

My wife and I have two sons and two cats, and it’s the two cats who offer us the most trouble. I also have an extensive comic book and David Bowie collection, and my brain houses an embarrassing amount of pop culture knowledge in lieu of any sporting facts.
