Writing Workshops

Session Info:

These sessions are designed to cater for the needs of classroom teachers and address specific areas of writing skills as well as providing an opportunity for the incidental introduction of a number of strategies to help kids improve their writing. Workshops include the creation of a simple 8-page picture story book using a repetitive theme based on a visit to the beach/park/zoo/bush; a focus on writing detail using as examples, excerpts from the works of well – known Australian authors; using dialogue effectively by rewriting well-known Nursery Rhymes as ‘conversation pieces’; and improving descriptive techniques using found objects. Most of these workshops have been tried and tested over many years in real classroom situations in my role as a primary school teacher and usually lead to a much greater awareness on the part of students of how they can employ some simple, effective strategies to improve their writing. “You really grabbed the children’s interest with your presentation. They loved the workshop – especially Dylan (he will treasure Gonzo forever!).”
