Why Writing Matters

Session Info:

My novel Eleven Seasons took ten years to write. My pursuit of the book encompassed a university degree, a scholarship and countless hours behind my computer screen. I had no indication while I was working that the book would ever eventuate. I was only able to persevere with it because of my passion for writing and my firm but vague hope that it would be worth it.

In the end, the writing process taught me more than perseverance; it also taught me why pursuing your passion for art is important. In making art, regardless of your audience, you’re engaging deeply, critically, playfully and independently with the world around you – it’s a way of finding meaning in the world and reflecting it. Along the way, you can inspire others to undertake and share their own creative pursuits.
