We’ve all heard it: “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”

Not many can lay claim to intimate knowledge of how that feels, but Ailsa Piper can. In 2010, she walked alone across 1300 kilometres from Granada to Galicia, and she carried a swag full of the donated sins of others for the whole distance.

Why? How? What motivated her to start? What on earth motivated her to keep going through floods, snow, searing heat and snoring Spaniards? And how did she keep her faith in her feet?
