Session description:

This session is a short follow-on activity from the introductory 30 minute version of a Creation of a Picture Book Demonstration which focuses on The Very Blue Thingamajig, Dancing the Boom-cha-cha Boogie and Narelle’s preparatory drawing stages of developing the imaginary characters from simple shapes.

Prep and year 1 students create their own thingamajig inventing its shape and different numbers of features. If time allows, they might describe their thingamajig in words.

Year 2 and 3 students create their own imaginary creatures which must exhibit features which could help in the case of a fire or flood, (ideas for these features are brainstormed first). If time allows, they can describe their creature and its three special features in words. Students might also draw the creature’s dwelling and landscape.

Topics:

Using imagination to invent a creature within the logic of story plot constraints Using shape and colour to suggest creature character Drawing skills Writing simple descriptive sentences
