Paula Weston: Giving up is not an option

Session Info:

It took me 16 years, six manuscripts, two plays and short story competition to become a published author.

Through that journey I learned a lot about writing, the publishing industry and myself – and the value of never giving up.

Topics:

  • Dealing with disappointment
  • Persevering after rejection
  • The publishing process in Australia
  • My journey of manuscripts, writing competitions and playwriting.

The following topics are all discussed within a framework of my personal experience:

  • The process of approaching publishers and agents (how do you find them, how do you know what they are after, how do you approach them?)
  • What does an agent do?
  • What happens when you are rejected?
  • How to learn from rejections
  • What happens when you get an agent?
  • How frustration and disappointment led to me writing Shadows for fun – and finally landing a publishing contract)
  • What happens after you are signed by a publisher (editing, marketing, international rights etc.)
