Session description:

From finding ideas to polishing final drafts, my workshops can be tailored to suit the needs of young writers of varying ability. Whether the students are passionate writers or are struggling with their literacy, my workshops empower young people to draw inspiration from the world and their imagination to create original narratives.

I am happy to adapt sessions to meet specific criteria or student abilities.

Topics:

Depending on the time frame, one or more of the following topics will be covered in any single workshop:

  • Finding inspiration for stories in the world around you and discovering your own unique perspective.
  • The role of research and the imagination in story creation.
  • Developing an ear for good use of language, word play and how to make your prose sparkle.
  • Character development: how to create believable characters that can make your stories shine.
  • Pulling it all together – ideas to help structure your story.
  • Polishing your work and trouble shooting for young writers.
  • Getting published: submitting work for publication, finding your readers and how to successfully enter competitions.
