Session description:

This session is a hands-on demonstration of linocutting and linocut printing and/or rubbing. Students handle real linoblocks. The session explores different methods of colouring linoprints for various effects and combining linoprints/rubbings with photography and other collage elements. By using real samples to demonstrate each stage, the session focuses on: Different sources of ideas. Preparation and research required for picture books based on real animals and settings. Process of creation of imaginary characters and settings. Planning and editing, word choices, storyboards, dummy book drafts, how words and pictures work together to tell a story. Stages of development in drawing final roughs and designing the double pages to include text. Conversion of a final drawing to finished artwork (linocut) and decisions about choice of media for different effects. Process of finished artwork appearing in a picture book (scanning, printing, binding).
