Stig Wemyss is Australia’s most loved narrator of audio books for children and young adults. His performances in libraries and schools around the country are wildly entertaining, cleverly irreverent and chocked full of fun.
I have worked as an actor in film and television as well as on stage, in a variety of diverse roles. I am a writer, a director and producer. I have also performed as a stand up comedian, a radio DJ, taught drama spruiked out the front of Nandos in a giant chicken suit.
My work has always been about making a difference by being unique.
I played Michael Preeble in the long running popular TV sitcom, Col’n Carpenter. I was the voice of Lil’ Elvis Jones in the ABC animated series and I played the talking dog, Bob Morrison. I won a TDK audio book award for my narration of Tim Winton’s That Eye The Sky and have performed in feature films with Nicole Kidman, Deborah Lee-Furness and Jimoen.
My audio books have been published in Australia and New Zealand.
I am passionate about life! I love books and reading. I love creating new stories through film and live performance and I am always inspired to make people laugh, But most of all I am passionate about my two beautiful children.
You may have seen me on the big screens at the MCG entertaining the crowd as Voice Of The G. Or maybe you remember me as the guy who shot John Wood on Blue Heelers, or that weirdo criminal from Stingers. Perhaps you saw me playing Rod Stewart in Magazine Wars, or as that computer geek in Offspring. Or maybe, just maybe it’s my voice you recognize from thousands of TV and radio ads and from narrating over 150 audio books including the entire Andy Griffith catalogue. Or maybe you don’t recognize me at all and I just remind you of somebody that you used to know. And no, that was not me playing Kimbra in the Gotye film clip.
If you have never seen one of my library shows, I highly recommend you do so. If you do not wish to spend the money to have me come to your school or library, then at least sneak in to the back of a show that someone else has booked me for. I won’t dob you in and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Thank you for suggesting and organising the booking of Stig Wemyss for one of our school’s Literacy Week events this year.
He was a wonderful performer and storyteller. The Year 7 students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and they were all abuzz after the presentation.
I think they didn’t expect to be laughing so much! And what a great ambassador he is for reading, libraries and just generally encouraging curiosity in students.
Stig Wemyss was an absolute hit with the older students. We had two speakers this year for the first Time. We had Mark Carthew in May (Education Week)and Stig Wemyss at the end of August. Both speakers were suitable for the age groups they were booked for. Mark enthralled the Years Foundation to 3 and Stig – the comments from the years 4-6 – were WoW! Great! Sic. etc. even my die hard year 6 boys who only use a book for stopping a table from rocking were excited.
I highly recommend Stig Wemyss – he’s a great ambassador for books & reading, in all its forms. He’s also great fun for all & perfect to inspire those kids who have lost their way with books & reading! Definitely a Rockstar Narrator!
