After deciding law was not for me, I trained as an actor at the Victorian College of the Arts. I worked for many years as an actor – predominantly in television and theatre. Performing in theatre for children led me to writing for children. I have never looked back!
In 2003 my picture book, Too Loud Lily was named Honour Book by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.
In 2004 I was awarded a two month residency at Art Omi in New York by the Australian Council. It was here I wrote Bird and Sugar Boy – a novel for young adults named an Honour Book by the Children’s Book Council of Australia in 2007.
In 2005 I was awarded a one month residency in Barcelona by Can Serrat, Spain.
In 2009 my first novel for adults, One Foot Wrong, was longlisted for the Miles Franklin Award and shortlisted for the Prime Minister’s Literary Award. It has been published throughout Europe, Asia and the United States. Screen rights have been optioned and I have completed the screenplay.
