R.A.Spratt is an award-winning comedy writer with thirteen years experience in the television industry. She started out writing political satire, then moved into sketch comedy, then pre-school drama and in more recent years has worked mainly in animation. R.A. Spratt lives in Sydney. She used to enjoy bellringing, hapkido and long distance running. But then she had two children has rarely left the house since. She is currently working on the 6th installment in the Nanny Piggins series.

Where were you born?

Essex, England. We emigrated to Sydney, Australia when I was 2 years old.

What other jobs have you had?

Pharmeceutical Services Technical Assistant, Secretary, Receptionist, TV writer for 17 different shows starting at Good News Week in 1997, up to Erky Perky, Gasp and CJ the DJ in more recent years. (For a full list of my credits you can see me listed as Rachel Spratt on imdb.com).

What themes are recurring in your work?

The importance of eating cake and chocolate.

What have been the highlights of your career?

Winning Booklist’s ‘Top of the List’ award and getting a gold sticker on my book.

What are you passionate about?

Cooking, sleeping and looking after my children.

Haven’t I seen you before?

I was on the Good News Week: Unseen and Obscene video which came out in the late 90’s. And I did do stand-up for a while from 1998-2002. Since then I’ve largely remained in my house typing away at my computer.

Anything else you’d like to share with us?

I have a Nanny Piggins puppet and an air rocket, both of which I can use for my presentations. The younger kids in particular love the puppet. They always have way more questions for Nanny Piggins than they do for me.
