Peter Meares

With forty years experience in sports media, Peter Meares is one of Queensland’s best-known sports commentators. He has published three books and has another two out later this year. A regular on ABC radio, he will be covering his fifth Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October, 2010.

What other jobs have you had?

I have been a broadcaster all my life, starting as a Sports Trainee at the ABC in Sydney in 1968. I worked as a commentator/presenter with ABC Sport in Hobart and Brisbane as well. In 1985 I switched to Channel 7 and from 1997 I have been freelance, working all over the world.

What have been the highlights of your career?

Being anchorman for the ABCTV coverage of the 1982 Brisbane Commonwealth Games and the publication of my first book in 2003.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about health and fitness, the value of team sport and literacy.

Haven’t I seen you before?

I have been on Australian TV regularly since 1968 and through Pay TV my series of interviews, “Superstars and Legends” has been shown in the UK, South Africa, India, Asia and NZ.
